But what is stevia?
Stevia is a South American herb whose leaves have been used both nutritionally and medicinally by the Guarani Indians of Paraguay for centuries. Stevia Rebaudiana is the sweetest variety of the nearly 300 species of the plant. Stevia is a natural sweetener, 200-300 times sweeter than sugar that does not raise our bloodsugar and does not contain any calories. In the 1930s, chemists in France isolated stevioside, the compound in the leaves that is responsible for their sweetness. I use organic liquid stevia.
